  2. April Meeting – Visual Studio 2010 Launch Party!

April 11, 2010 by John Clayton

What’s new in Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4?

This week (the US launch is April 12 at DevConnections in Las Vegas) is Microsoft’s official launch of Visual Studio 2010, .NET 4, and Silverlight 4. Visual Studio 2010 has a new language (F#), a new look (the IDE is written in WPF), and some handy new features. .NET 4 has a whole grabbag of improvements and new features.

I will be presenting from the Visual Studio 2010 Training kit and demoing Visual Studio 2010 with some of the included labs. Two of the things that caught my attention are Workflow Services and custom code generators for Entity Framework. We will wander through other features as time and audience curiosity permit. A sneak peek at the next version of Expression Blend will also be available.

In addition to having pizza and refreshments we are also going to try streaming the meeting live! To join the meeting simply follow the link below and follow the instructions.

Topic: Declarative based UI programming: WPF, Silverlight & Surface

XAML has become the de facto declarative language for UI development on the Microsoft platform spanning Windows, Web and the Microsoft Surface. This transformation to a single declarative language for all platforms has enabled Microsoft to deliver on the bold promise of a cross platform user experience programming model for the future. In this unique session we take a look at how knowledge of XAML and .NET languages like C# and VB.NET allow you to develop applications for Windows (WPF), the Web (Silverlight) and the Microsoft Surface using the same coding constructs and idioms. In this demo packed session we will take a look at how graphics, animations, data binding, styles and templates are commonly implemented on these platforms and how XAML makes all of this possible.
